National Greenhouse Gas Reduction Program through Energy Efficiency in the Built Environment
This project objective is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the commercial & residential sectors through the development of energy efficient practices in building constructions in these two sectors in Senegal. The project will focus on the development and practical implementation of a thermal & energy efficiency Building Code and combine it with capacity building and demonstration to support it.
Project components are: (1) Identification, testing and demonstration of energy efficiency in construction techniques & building materials; (2) Development of a thermal & energy efficiency Building Code; (3) Strengthening of the institutional, economic and policy framework and of the local capacity for an effective implementation of the new energy efficiency building code; (4) and Strengthening of technical capacities of the private sector for a practical implementation of the energy efficiency building code.
The direct GHG emissions savings due to the associated energy efficiency demonstration investments over their respective lifetime are estimated at 7,325 tCO2e. The indirect GHG emissions savings would be between 21,975 tCO2e and 670,000 tCO2e, which translates to between $1.4/tCO2e and $42/tCO2e.
The co-financing amount has more than doubled compared to PIF stage (from 3 MUSD to 7.9 MUSD) with additional co-financing from the government and from institutions in Dakar.
