Global Expert Workshop on Biodiversity Benefits of Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries
Organized by the CBD 2, the overall objective of the workshop is to “support Parties efforts to address reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries in the framework of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change” in a way that contributes to the implementation of the CBD programme of work on forest biodiversity.
In order to achieve this objective, the workshop will address potential risks associated with REDD-plus that could result in activities that run counter to the objectives of the programme of work, and develop recommendations how these risks could be addressed.
The workshop will also focus on opportunities in the context of REDD-plus, and develop recommendations how benefits for biodiversity and indigenous and local communities could be optimized.
