GEF Evaluation Office and the Institute of Development Studies

IDS and GEF announce a partnership
The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) in East Sussex, United Kingdom, and the GEF Evaluation Office are very pleased to announce a five year agreement, which will cover collaboration between IDS and the Office on a variety of issues, including methodological advice, peer reviews, joint work to prepare studies, as well as internship opportunities for MA students to work at the Evaluation Office. Rob D. van den Berg, Director of the Evaluation Office, and Lawrence Haddad, Director of IDS signed the agreement on 28 October.

A Seminar on Bidiversity and Climate Change
To mark the signing of the memorandum of understanding, Rob D. van den Berg gave a seminar on October 29 outlining the work of the GEF and reporting on a briefing paper of the Evaluation Cooperation Group of the international financial institutions reviewing evaluation lessons learnt on support for biodiversity. Robert Nurick, the Director of Teaching at IDS provided a critique of this through his work on protected areas and climate change. A lively exchange followed and Rob provided further information on the possibility of paid internships for graduated MA students at IDS.
