GEF Policies are statements of principles or values that are approved by the GEF Council that mandates or constrains activities undertaken to achieve institutional goals of the GEF Secretariat.

GEF Strategies incorporate guidance from the relevant Conventions for which the GEF serves as an interim financial mechanism: the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
