| Description | The objective of the project is to support the indigenous communities of the Matavén Forest to plan the management and conservation of its biodiversity in a sustainable way, thereby contributing to an improvement in the quality of life and the preservation of their natural and cultural heritage. |
| Implementation Status | For the first time in Colombia the creation of a protected area will be led by indigenous groups, according to their own vision, and in their own interest. Strong participation by the indigenous communities in the zoning, management and sustainable use of the natural reserve, will increase the local control of Mataven and reinforce the link between health, nutrition and biodiversity conservation. The development of biodiversity products and their linkage to the market will reinforce the relationship between sustainable livelihoods and biodiversity conservation. These activities will set the foundation for sustained local efforts to protect the Mataven Forest and its endemic species of global importance (sustainable management), resulting in the generation of significant global benefits. |
