| Description | The proposed PIREP will facilitate the promotion with the Pacific Island Coduntries (PICs) of the widespread implementation and ultimately, commercialization of RE technologies (RETs). The establishment of an enabling environment conducive to the region-wide adoption and commercialization of RETs would involve the design, development and implementation of appropriate policies, strategies and interventions addressing the fiscal, financial, regulatory, market, technical and information barriers to RE development and utilization. The project has a regional approach to reflect the existing regional set-up and to improve the policy-making abilities of the small nations. |
| Implementation Status | From the last quarter, the major outputs/results achieved from the project were i)Completed the Annual Project Report for May 04 – May 05. ii)Completed the first preliminary draft of the PIGGAREP ProDoc and assisted in the process of a UNDP-managed consultancy study to access the capacity of the proposed executing agency and well as reviewing the draft ProDoc iii)Raised the awareness and synergies with related initiatives in the region through the presentation of the PIGGAREP in a Sydney Renewable Energy Forum and the REP-PoR preparatory meeting. iv)Got the 2006-2008 PIGGAREP work programme and budget approved by the 16th SPREP meeting v)Received 10 letters of commitments to provide co-financing to the PIGGAREP; 9 from PICs and one from SOPAC’s PIEPSAP vi)Completed the publication of the PIREP reports and started with their distribution. vii)Updated PIREP page in SPREP’s climate change portal. viii)Continued effective and efficient project management and contributed to regional and SPREP-related initiatives related to climate change and renewable energy in the Pacific Islands Countries (PICs) Detailed report in "Attachment" |
