| Description | The overall objective of the Energy Sector Reform and Development Project is to help the Government enhance the efficiency of the energy sector, increase access of rural areas to modern sources of energy, and improve the management of natural forest resources. The project seeks to foster private sector development and competition in the energy sector, and empower local communities. Within this context, the global environmental objective of the project is to reduce national carbon emissions by creating an enabling framework for energy conservation and renewable energy. |
| Implementation Status | This project entered into the pipeline of the World Bank in 2001, and was approved by GEF Council in 2002. During the last four years, a new strategic decision in the energy sector in Burkina Faso have been made, leading to a significant revision of the design of the operation, in addition to delays. In view of this fact, it has been decided to cancel the project. The undisbursed PDF B amount of $40,450 (TF29867) was cancelled on January 13, 2006 and returned to the GEF Trust Fund. |
