| Description | Participatory, community-forest sustainable management systems in a 300,000 ha zone surrounding Niokolo-Koba National Park will be phased in over a 7-year period with the primary objectives of carbon sequestration and local income enhancement, and secondary biodiversity conservation benefits. A parallel, demand management and fuel substitution component, to be executed with the private sector and NGOs, will promote substitution of kerosene and liquid petroleum gas for charcoal, and will disseminate efficient charcoal stoves. |
| Implementation Status | Project activities are at a turning point. The aerial photography has been completed and the contract for the most important activity of the project --the inventory of forest resources-- has just been awarded. Field activities are underway to complete the inventory of 300,000 hectares. Overall, the project's performance continues on track with disbursements improved considerably during this year. |
