| Description | The project aims to increase the use of biomass energy sources for generating electricity for own consumption and export to the grid. It will promote combustion, gasification and cogeneration technologies using different types of captive and distributed biomass resources for electricity generation. Further, the project will induce investments in the three identified major biomass power sectors: cooperative sugar mills; agro- processors and biomass producers; and distributed or decentralized biomass. The project strategy seeks to utilize technical assistance and investment risk mitigation support to remove the identified barriers and promote investments in biomass power generation. It will focus invetsment activities on select States with appropriate regulatory framework and RE policy. TA activities will reach out to a wider set of States to improve the investment environment in these States. Part I of the project will focus on providing technical assistance to remove the identified barriers and implementing 7 model investment projects to demonstrate the use of biomass in those applications with the greatest potential for replication. Part II will focus on providing support for risk mitigation to stimulate further replication investments across the targeted sectors and States. |
| Implementation Status | Major activity components during the quarter included: The upgrading of Hosahalli/Hanumanthanagara as demonstration plants Hanumanthanagara and Hosahalli villagers are presently energized using Biomass gasifier technology combined with an energy forest. End use systems like domestic lighting, piped drinking water systems, flour mill and irrigation facilities are also being installed here to make this a full-fledged training centre for bioenergy technologies for the future. Village selection reports have been finalized in consultation with stakeholders. Interviews were conducted as per the norms and the selection procedures completed for the various positions in the proposed project management cell, which is being set up. Also, names of the short listed candidates have been forwarded to the respective govt. personnel for their final clearance. The proposals for different technology packages and allied tasks were scrutinized and placed before the advisory committee for their consideration and approval. |
