| Description | This project seeks to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by providing technical assistance to small and medium-sized steel rerolling mills in India that will enable them to adopt more energy efficient and environmentally friendly technologies. For capacity building and information dissemination, the Ministry of Steel will establish a center for training, information and capacity strengthening on a sustained basis. It will also develop institutional linkages with energy-service companies for providing off-the-shelf technologies from international equipment vendors. These actions, together with investment support provided by the Banking Sector are expected to result in a transformed and efficient steel re-rolling sector. |
| Implementation Status | • Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Manual and M&E Training manual have been submitted by M/s Ernst & Young (E&Y). A Pilot Test conducted by M/s E&Y at M/s Ludhiana steels. • Roll Pass Design (RPD) Software procured from M/s Morgardshammer, Sweden. and installed at Technology Information Resource & Facilitation Centre (TIRFAC). RPD training program held for PMC executives and model unit representatives from 25th to 29th June 2007. • Contract for cluster mapping of SRRM sector awarded to M/s PCRA and the activity is under progress. • Portable Process Control & Automation System has been removed from M/s Bhambri Steel Private Limited. Feasibility study of reheating furnaces for suitability for installation in the furnaces of M/s Ludhiana Steel, M/s Dhiman Iron & Steels and M/s K L Rathi Steels taken up. • Design of web portal is under progress and presentation given by M/s Comm-IT Solutions. A draft report for initial data bank has been submitted by M/s See-Tech Solution Pvt. Ltd. • Implementation of 5S is under final stage at 4 model units in Mandi Gobindgarh cluster. • Resident Mission (South) has been set up at JPC Regional Office, Chennai. • Selection of additional model units is under progress. |
