| Description | The objective of the project is the safe and effective conservation of crop wild relatives and their increased availability for crop improvement in Armenia, Bolivia, Madagascar, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan. |
| Implementation Status | Formal agreements for information exchange have been signed and work on evaluating benefit-sharing mechanisms has begun. All countries have conducted eco-geographic field surveys for priority taxa and have agreed to use the same national information system. Core and additional descriptors for information systems have been agreed upon and schemas have been designed. A species database containing CWR species names has been developed for the international system. The legal framework has been reviewed in all countries. All countries have selected priority taxa for conservation actions; a total of 40 genera have been selected. Armenia and Uzbekistan have selected protected areas for which to develop CWR management plans. Information on accessions of 1153 CWR species is now in electronic format. National partners have conducted information-management training and training in Red Listing procedures was delivered in Bolivia, Madagascar, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan. Baseline awareness surveys have been analyzed and awareness-raising strategies initiated. |
