| Description | The Cape Peninsula Biodiversity Conservation Project will provide resources to assist in the creation of the Cape Peninsula National Park by (i) addressing the most urgent conservation needs, including eradication of invasive exotics and improvement of local emergency response capacity (in case of oil spills or wildfires), (ii) freeing admission-fee resources to allow upgrading of visitor facilities and management systems to ensure financial sustainability of the park, (iii) expanding the Table Mountain Fund which supports mainly NGO-led conservation initiatives, and (iv) initiating strategic conservation planning for the entire Cape Floristic region. The PDF will synthesize conservation threats and strategic priorities in the Cape Floristic region, and assist designing an appropriate response program. |
| Implementation Status | The project has been extended until June 30, 2005. A supervision mission was undertaken in order to plan for the completion of the project within this extended period. The implementation of all 3 components is in substantial compliance with the original project plan. The Project has made good implementation progress and is on target to meet all key deliverables. However, in Table Mountain National Park, there has been some disappointing drop off to the completion of 2 out of 7 sub-components. Steps have been identified to address this. In the other 2 project components; TMF and Cape Strategy they remain best practice and rated as to HS. |
