| Description | The overall objectives of this demonstration project on biosafety is to provide support to strengthen capacity building for the implementation of national biosafety framework in compliance with the obligations of the Cartagena Protocol. The specific objectives are: a) to support the establishment of the regulatory and administrative biosafety management system in to enable an adequate level of protection in the field of the safe transfer, handling and use of living modified organisms (LMOs) resulting from modern biotechnology, with a specific focus on transboundary movements in Bulgaria. b) to establish procedures for risk assessment and monitoring; c) to strengthen capacity building through training of trainers on LMOs related to risk assessment and management, testing and monitoring, legal issues, institutional set ups and intellectual property rights; d) to promote and strengthen information sharing and dissemination among the relevant stakeholders, and enhance public awareness. |
