| Description | Globally significant biodiversity within Asháninka territories and surrounding state forestlands is conserved under community management, and alternative livelihood opportunities benefit local inhabitants and reduce pressure on natural resources. |
| Implementation Status | This Medium Size Project was approved by the GEF's CEO on September 15, 2003. The project activities started in February 2005. An inception workshop to adjust the logical framework and annual work plan was held in October 2004 with participation of PROCAM staff, UNDP CO and UNDP/GEF RCU. A first visit to the executing agency’s premises in Satipo was held last June. The project team is now fully conformed. UNDP CO and UNDP/GEF RCU, and the executing agency have agreed to hire a senior consultant to help PROCAM to design the annual work plan for 2006. During the visit to Satipo, a customary briefing on GEF monitoring and evaluation requirements was conducted. In addition, meetings with Ashaninka leaders were held to inform them about the project and roles and responsibilities among parties involved. |
