| Description | The objective of this Enabling Activities proposal is to build and strengthen national capacities and to enhance knowledge of decision makers, industrialists, NGOs and the general population on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs). This will lead to the preparation of a National Implementation Plan (NIP) for the Stockholm Convention on (POPs), and endorsement by all stakeholders in Burundi, in order to enable Burundi to manage the reduction and elimination of POPs and fulfil its reporting and other obligations under the Stockholm Convention. Specifically, the project will: i. Allow Burundi to meet its reporting obligations under the Stockholm Convention; ii. Prepare the ground for the implementation of the Stockholm Convention in Burundi; iii. Strengthen national capacity to manage POPs and strengthen chemicals management capacity in general; iv. Maximize government commitment and facilitate the ratification of the Stockholm Convention. |
