The expanded assessment would be managed along with that of the Three Rio conventions covered under the original project. The Government of Jamaica has identified the lead consultant and they will commence work in 2004. Two GEF missions to the island that were relevant to this project took place in the period. In the first, Tehmina Akhtar acted as a resource person for a workshop hosted by the Ministry of Land and Environment. The workshop, which spanned 3 days, focused on increasing the awareness of Government, private sector and NGO stakeholders of The GEF and the Clean Development Mechanism. In the second workshop, Yamil Bonduki, Arturo Garcia-Costas and Mihoko Kumamoto met with the focal points and representatives of the main institutions involved in activities under the three conventions for an inception workshop. They were also able to meet with members of the academia and the private sector who were interested in preparing proposals for submission to the GEF. |
