| Description | The enabling project aims at determining current status of biodiversity, reasons of degradation, strategies and priority actions required for the sound use and conservation of biodiversity resources. A resource inventory will be drawn up in order to assess existing potential measures, and to identify gaps in biodiversity knowledge. Special focus will be given to the status of agrobiodiversity resources and impacts from livestock. The project will rely on extensive analysis, consultations and dialogues on issues pertaining to biodiversity. The NBSAP's main thrusts and provisions will address policies, strategies and actions aimed at conserving, managing and monitoring biodiversity. It will also identify entities responsible for the implementation of activities to be undertaken according to the strategy. The project will enhance participation of civil society through networking and public awareness programmes. |
| Implementation Status | All activities were dedicated to the synthesis of the consultants’ work on capacity building needs for biodiversity in-situ and ex-situ conservation as well as capacity building for agro-biodiversity and biodiversity threats assessment. A synthesis document has been compiled and was validated by key partners during a validation workshop held on 19 October 2003 with a participation of no less than 50 experts and other participants from key sectors. The document is being duplicated and disseminated since December,2003. During January 2004, the strategy and action plan will also be duplicated on CD-ROM and widely disseminated. With this, the project will be completed. |
