| Description | The goal of the project is the improved environmental quality through enhanced integrated ecosystems management (IEM), strengthened regional capacity and cooperation in environment for SD and REAP implementation. Four objectives have been identified: Objective 1: Strengthened political and institutional basis for regional cooperation and REAP implementation. Objective 2: Strengthened information support to decision-making process in environment for SD and IEM. Objective 3: Enhanced civil society (CS) participation to strengthen regional cooperation in environment for SD and IEM. Objective 4: Enhanced regional capacity for REAP implementation. |
| Implementation Status | Objective 1: Strengthen Mechanism for Regional Cooperation, Senior officials and Ministerial meeting, 22-23 November 2006; the Convention (Treaty) was adopted at the Conference on 22 November 2006. Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan have signed the Convention; Decision to establish Regional Mountain Center (CARMC) in Bishkek and Tajikistan would chair the board of directors. Statue is being developed. Senior officials and Ministerial meeting, 19-21 June 2007(supported by UNDP and Central Asia Regional Environmental Center (CAREC); Status of the Central Asia Regional Mountain Center (CARMC) being established in Bishkek was approved by ISDC in June 2007; Objective 2: Strengthen Decision making Support System, Web portal and Comprehensive State of Environment (SOE) report was were developed and launched at the Ministerial Meeting. Subregional Sustainable Development Strategy (SSDS) is being finalized, it will be presented at ISDC November 07 Meeting in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; Objective 3: Civil Society Participation, Subregional CSO/Youth Meeting was conducted. Public Council (PC) and Central Asia Youth Environment Network (CAYEN) were established. Youth Environment Report was prepared and presented at the Ministerial Meeting. Small Grant Program was launched by Public Council (PC) under ISDC in May 2007, projects were selected and started in June 2007. Best Practice Handbook and CSO Database are being developed. CAYEN website is being developed (www.caresd.net/cayen, currently available in Russian). Preparations for national youth summer camps have been taking place from April 2007. Objective 4: Capacity Building for REAP Implementation, MoUs with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to implement pilot projects were concluded and project started in March 2007. |
