| Description | The principal objective of this enabling activity is to assist Burkina Faso to prepare a National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (BSAP), which will define the current status of, pressures on, options for, and priority actions to ensure the conservation, sustainable use, and equitable share of its biological diversity in accordance with the National Development Plan (NDP). This will also enable Burkina Faso to both meet its obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity (COB) by preparing its first national report to the Conference of the Parties of the COP, and to fully integrate biodiversity into the existing National Environment Action Plan (NEAP). |
| Implementation Status | $ 450 061 from GEF / 1997-2005 / Soumayla BANCE / on-going. The project continues to pursue its objectives as planned. A biosafety component was added to the project in August 2005 aiming at conducting activities related to the implementation of the Cartagena Protocol. The project is expected to reach its final stages by 2006. |
