| Description | The Biodiversity Enabling Activity for Mali will assist the Ministry of Rural Development and Environment (MDRE) and the Comité Interministériel du Suivi (CIS) in developing a National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (BSAP). The BSAP will build on and reinforce other existing national strategies and plans, such as the National Environmental Action Plan. The project will allow Mali to meet its obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) by assisting the preparation of an Interim Report to the Conference of Parties (COP) of June 1997 and its first Country Report to the COP. |
| Implementation Status | Project under satisfactory execution. The stocktaking activities and the first national workshop are completed. An international consultancy was fielded in March 1999 there to provide technical assistance. A Clearing House Mechanism component was added in May 1999. The regional workshops were held and completed between June and December 1999. The Biodiversity Strategy and National Action Plan (BSAP) is expected to be ready by the end of 2000 after a second mission by an international consultant to take place in August 2000 during the 2nd national workshop. |
