| Description | The project will assist Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe (all parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity) to conserve biological resources of global significance through a public education and awareness program using local and traditional means of communication to promote incentives for local community participation in implementing the objectives of the Convention. |
| Implementation Status | The project is currently being implemented in Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Fourteen actors, two from each of the seven SADC countries, were selected as actor-facilitators for the program. They have undergone theatrical skills training in South Africa and facilitation training in Namibia. The project spent up to six weeks in each country, holding theatrical workshops and creating local productions with the input of communities, the local COP Partners and the two-person teams. The ‘regional road-show’ was successfully staged in sixteen cities of the seven countries between October and December 2000. The project closed in April 2001. |
