| Description | The primary goal of the NCSA process in Bangladesh is to identify, through a country-driven consultative process, priorities and needs for capacity building to protect the global environment. |
| Implementation Status | During this reporting quarter, a number of enabling activities towards the NCSA objectives has been successfully completed. Some of the noteworthy activities were: • the third strategic technical committee meeting held on 4th April 2007 • the mid-term workshop held from 17th-18th April 2007 • multi-stakeholder consultations held on the International Biodiversity Day, 22nd May 2007 • multi-stakeholder consultation held on 6th June 2007 to commemorate the World Environment Day • focus group discussion held in Teknaf on 24th May 2007 • community consultation held in Teknaf on 24th May 2007 • focus group meeting with planning officials at the Academy for Planning and Development on 16th June 2007 • focus group discussion held in Sunamganj on 28th June 2007 • participation of the National Project Director (NPD) and Project Manager (PM) at the 26 session of the Subsidiary Bodies to the UNFCCC from 7th-18th May 2007 in Bonn, Germany Through the NCSA process, avenues are being paved for creating fruitful partnerships between the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), UNDP Bangladesh, IUCN Bangladesh Country Office and other relevant ministries and agencies. In addition, the inception workshop, thematic group meetings, strategic technical committee meetings, focus group meetings, community consultations etc have ensured the effective participation of relevant stakeholders. The NCSA project has a multi-stakeholder outlook and plans to foster partnerships between government and non-government agencies, universities, research organizations and even the private sector in the process. Suggestions from various meetings, discussions and consultations have given definite shape to the future actions of the NCSA document: to explore the national resources such as the government’s budget allocations, to utilize existing national training institutes for disseminating knowledge across sectors, to facilitate interagency coordination and retain institutional memory by assigning focal points. |
