| Description | The project aims to build on the results and significant tradition of scientific work in the Lake Balaton region, recently initiated research in Hungary focused on adaptation to climate change, as well as innovative approaches to integrated assessment of vulnerability to global change and the formulation of adaptive measures. The ultimate goal is to facilitate the development and implementation of effective adaptive strategies. |
| Implementation Status | Data processing and modeling activities continued on the thematic models (i.e. watershed, lake and integrated models) to make them ready for testing. In addition, planning and preparation the capacity building workshops was initiated. At the project board meeting it was concluded that progress is 3 to 6 months behind schedule, mainly due to difficulties encountered in data collection and acquisition from other projects as initially scheduled, related to Outcome 1. This caused further delays other outcomes. A request for a project extension by 6 months was made and approved by the Steering Committee in October. This delay allowed the project to interface with the preparation process of Hungary’s National Climate Change Strategy (NCCS). Official comments on the draft version of NCCS were formulated and submitted, and a meeting with the Ministry of Environment and Water officials was held, which resulted in an agreement to cooperate further on climate issues. |
