| Description | To create and strengthen the capacity for renewable energy project development based on regional cooperation and in-country linkages, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions by fostering small-scale renewable energy in Central America. Specific objectives are to remove institutional, informational, financial and technical barriers to: (i) Increase access to basic energy services for people in rural areas; (ii) Use renewable energy sources to replace fossil fuels and reduce firewood consumption; (iii) Initiate discussions to facilitate the integration of global environment protection into the energy policies of the Central American political agenda. |
| Implementation Status | This project has completed its activities. The immediate objectives of the project have been achieved. FOCER has had a positive impact on the concerned institutions in Central America. It has contributed to the capacity building of the institutions, strengthened their participation in energy and environmental policy discussions, promoted the development of laws and incentives for renewable energy, promoted the regional integration of these government institutions through the training of their technicians and the regional discussions about policies. In terms of the 21 projects, the following is a brief description to give an overview of the projects- 8 demonstrative projects with case studies - 4 Pre-feasibility studies - 5 feasibility studies - 9 Business plans - 4 projects cancelled before completion of studies. Finally, 9 business plans have been completed based on the feasibility studies and the demonstrative projects and the portfolio of projects has been presented to several financial entities. |
