| Description | This project seeks to remove market barriers to the adoption of sustainable biomass energy practices and technologies by institutions (schools and hospitals) and small businesses (restaurants, hotels) in rural and urban areas of Kenya by: (i) promoting highly efficient improved stoves, and (ii) establishment of woodlots owned and managed by the institutions and private sector. |
| Implementation Status | An inception meeting was held with members of the Project Steering committee at the end of October 2006. The National Project Manager and Technical Manager have been recruited. Recruitment of field staff advanced. Procurement of the project vehicles and materials for making the stoves is ongoing. By April, 17,000 trees have been planted (63,000 trees to be planted this rainy season). 29 Schools stoves have been installed (9 in the Rift Valley, 10 in Western and North Rift, 5 Mt Kenya, 1 Nairobi, 2 Coast, 2 Ukambani). |
