| Description | The immediate objective of this project is to facilitate the preparation of the first national communication of I.R. Iran to the Conference of the Parties (COP), in accordance with Article 12.1of the UNFCCC, and the guidelines adopted by COP-2 for the preparation of national communications of non-Annex I Parties. |
| Implementation Status | After several meetings & consultations with the relevant stakeholders, the national report on Global Climate Observation System (GCOS) is now finalized and ready for editorial work and publication. The progress report on the Assessment of Technology Needs was discussed at a meeting among the relevant stakeholders in mid-March. Except for the oil and gas sectors, the draft of the report in this activity has been prepared and is under review. A meeting was also held in March to discuss about the progress of the study on the Kyoto Protocol and the draft of the report on this issue has been prepared. The public awareness booklet on climate change that was prepared at earlier stages of the project is now in print and will be available in the near future. A workshop on climate change was held in Hormozgan province in February 2004 for the local experts. The stocktaking exercise for preparation of the project document for the Second National Communication is in progress. |
