| Description | UNIDO: The overall objective of the proposed project is to strengthen and /or build capacity required in LDCs of the COMESA Sub-region to implement their NIPs in a sustainable, effective and comprehensive manner while building upon and contributing to strengthening the country’s capacities for sound management of POPs chemicals. The immediate objective is to create an enabling environment to implement the NIPs in the LDCs of the COMESA Sub-region by establishing/amending laws, regulations, policies, standards; strengthening institutions for remediation of contaminated sites; introducing BAT/BEP to industrial processes; managing municipal wastes including e-wastes and health-care wastes; supporting the phasing out of agricultural use of POP pesticides through the promotion of production and use of bio-botanical pesticides; promoting technology transfer; facilitating data and information collection and dissemination; and ensuring continuous improvement and awareness raising of stakeholders on POPs issues. UNEP: The Objective of the project is to strengthen and build the capacity required in LDCs and SIDS in the SADC subregion to implement their Stockholm Convention NIPs in a sustainable, effective and comprehensive manner, while building upon and contributing to strengthening a country's foundational capacities for the sound management of chemicals. |
