| Description | This project will assist the national Government to meet its obligations under the Convention on Biological Diversity. |
| Implementation Status | April-June 2005: The project has been successful in the establishment of a legal framework for the implementation of the Brazilian Strategy for Biological Diversity, by means of a federal Decree of August 2002, instituting the principles and directives of a National Biodiversity Policy, as well as Decree of May 2003 that adjusts the National Biodiversity Programme accordingly. The project has prepared the Executive Summary of the National Strategy and has revised the Second National Report published. The methodology for the Third National Report has been discussed in 2005 and the National Policy on Biodiversity in being prepared, with a consultation process scheduled for late August. |
