| Description | The project addresses both the demand for and supply of household energy in a country where people depend heavily on environmentally-damaging woodfuels. Consumption of these fuels will be reduced by promoting the use of more efficient stoves and through substituting woodfuels with kerosene and bottled gas through technical assistance and credit to manufacturers and marketers. In parallel, forest planning and management will be strengthened through training and technical assistance. |
| Implementation Status | On the demand side, implementation is progressing satisfactorily with the exception of the commercialization of kerosene stoves and briquette production. Some 85,000 charcoal stoves have been sold in the cities where the project team intervenes; this is about 20% more than the target. - On the supply side, physical implementation is satisfactory and more than 200 rural markets are operational, showing that organizationally it is feasible to create rural markets, devolve control over natural resources to the local community. |
