| Description | The project has initiated programs to conserve the biodiversity of key endangered forests and is providing institutional support to the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Forests to undertake biodiversity conservation management activities. Innovative features include the establishment of a gene bank and arboreta to protect genetic diversity and to provide plants for reforestation in areas degraded by pollution. |
| Implementation Status | Project was successfully completed on 12/95. Scientific and technical studies for generating options for biodiversity conservation exceeded original expectations. The Bialowieza Conservation Plan was completed and publicly reviewed (12/94). Project funds supported an effective MaB office that ran local awareness campaigns and financed small grants to NGO groups for work in the Forest. Implementation Completion Report was produced on 4/16/98. |
