| Description | The objective of the project is the development of a strategy for the sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity with the participation of local communities and administrations. The project supports dialogue and lays the basis for a more environmentally grounded development plan for the refion given that the recently proposed development programs fro the region have presented conceptual and methodological differences in approach with respect to the cultural systems of its inhabitants and to their relationship with the natural environment. |
| Implementation Status | Project is proceeding satisfactorily. Most recently, information has been gathered for a bibliographic database and a GIS for the region. Two centers for environmental information have been established and training and exchange of information events were held. Twenty subprojects on sustainable use and natural resource management and biodiversity have been implemented as productive and income generating activities. Areas have been identified and contacts realized for the push and consolidation of a regional network of protected areas. Project was closed on December 31, 2002 |
