| Description | The project aims to create a sustainable technical, institutional and financial infrastructure to support PV market penetration. As a result of the project, growing energy demand in semi-urban Sudan would be met with PV instead of diesel systems. The project will help facilitate the development of government policy regulations that will create a favorable environment to generate 1.2 MW of installed PV capacity per year over the next 15 years. The project will also demonstrate the feasibility and viability of PV systems in Sudan while assuring, among others, the availability of credit mechanisms, the establishment of after sales services, and development of a curriculum for PV vocational training. |
| Implementation Status | Support to regional governments in implementation of the governments 1000 villages solar lighting programme in three states. Credit facility started in WAW of Southern Sudan hence completing the coverage of credit in all states where the project established PV offices. Internal assessment of credit facility conducted and report prepared. Preparation of the semi final draft of the renewable energy master plan for Sudan prepared by an International Consultant and a team of 5 local consultants. Final report will be ready by the end of September 2005. A terminal evaluation for the project is scheduled for November 2005. An international and a national consultant have been identified. |
