| Description | Promote expanded use of non-motorized transport as an alternative to fossil-fuel burning motorized transport by providing facilities (bike lanes and paths, parking, awareness and safety campains) for bicycle transport in the city of Marikina, Metro Manila. |
| Implementation Status | Project was approved on June 21, 2001 and became effective December 6, 2001. The DO rating and implementation progress remain satisfactory. City of Marikina is committed. Components are proceeding with minor delays. First two sections of bikelanes are complete, and already yielding substantial benefits. Surveys are being initiated to measure impacts, and a microcredit scheme has been agreed to encourage stronger bike ownership. The City is progressing well towards meeting the development objectives of the bikeway network including implementing several kilometers of bikeways, undertaking public information activities, bike riding training for children, and strong commitment from the mayor of the city to the program |
