| Description | The project aims to conserve and sustainably use globally significant biodiversity and to fight against land degradation in three priority areas in the arid and semi-arid zone ecosystems of Algeria. |
| Implementation Status | The project is under implementation since 2001. The HS rating of the project in the last PIR reflects the outstanding achievements of the project especially in the area of capacity building either of the NGOs involved in the project or the local stakeholders. The project is ending but still delivers important outputs such as the environmental education centre as well as the finalization of the news letter n° 6 and n°7. The educational kit has been finalized and a training of trainer’s workshop will be held before their distribution. An arid ecosystems guide has also been finalized and will be published in Q4. The three management plans are finalized and published. The new participatory approach followed to formulate the management plans was adopted by the “Direction Générale des Forêts” as a tool to develop the next protected areas management plans. The final evaluation of the project will be carried in December 2007. |
