| GEF Agency | UNDP |
| Executing Agency | MINVEC |
| Description | To phase out 100% of the use of CFC 11 as a blowing agent and CFC 12 as a cooling agent for domestic refrigerators production in Cuba. |
| Implementation Status | The final evaluation process was concluded. An additional final evaluation process from GEF (SMRP) was conducted in the field. The substantive part of the project is almost concluded and the financial execution is expected to finalize in the 1st quarter of 2004. As general assessment, the project has made excellent progress in the transferring of technology for the higher energy efficient and ODS-free refrigerators, testing the energy efficiency of 3 prototypes, and putting in place a production line for producing upwards of 30,000 refrigerators per year. A testing lab for both energy efficiency and ODS-free verification has also been established and is in operation. Uncertainties in financing of recurrent costs for future production of refrigerators could affect the project’s sustainability and reduce the impacts in terms of GHGs. |
