| Description | The project will be designed to help countries operationalize information access and public participation in a manner that advances the goals of reducing toxics and nutrients discharges to the Danube River Basin. As such, the activities conducted in Hungary and Slovenia will serve as a pilot for future efforts to operationalize public involvement in support of pollution reduction in the Danube in other countries in the Danube River basin. |
| Implementation Status | The project was completed both operationally (2001) and financially (2003). The submission of the signed Terminal Project report remains outstanding. Following regional initiatives for its continuation in the South-Eastern European region, the implementing organizations of the project (i.e. REC, New York University-School of Law and Resources for the Future) .did already submit a project proposal for GEF funding. The second phase of the project will use experiences of the first phase, this time covering Bulgaria, Romania and some former Yugoslav countries. |
