| Description | The main objective of this project is for the conservation of the Asiatic cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus venaticus) in the I.R. of Iran and the related complex of rare and endangered wild species and their natural habitats with the support and collaboration of local communities. |
| Implementation Status | No-cost extension of this project appears to be paying dividends with some significant reported achievements towards achieving the project objectives that relate to the long-term sustainability of the project’s impacts. This includes changing people’s attitudes and behaviour, developing appropriate capacity, and changing the local incentive structure to favour the conservation of cheetah, its prey and its habitat. The first Asiatic Cheetah Protection festival was held publicly on August 31. The event provided an occasion for governmental organization and NGOs to hold programs such as screening of movies, distribution of pamphlets and posters, speeches, games, painting competition, theater. Other educational programs were held in more than 20 cities and villages countrywide in cooperation with provincial offices of DOE, local NGOs and public. Public awareness activities are ongoing in Touran and Bafq with the 2 NGOs. School students were taken to the fields with game guards |
