DescriptionThe project is to remove the key barriers to the implementation of selected, economically feasible en-ergy efficiency technologies and measures in the residential and the service sectors in Croatia, thereby reducing their energy consumption and the associated greenhouse gas emissions. The initial focus of the project will be on the counties of Istria and Rijeka, after which the activities are sought to be repli-cated in other parts of the country. In that regard, the project looks forward to co-operate also closely with the planned World Bank project, which is to support the establishment of the first Energy Service Company in Croatia. The overall potential to reduce country’s greenhouse gas emission by the selected measures and within the end user groups that are targeted directly under this project has been estimated at approxi-mately 2.0 Mt of CO2 by 2020.
Implementation StatusThe partial guarantee mechanism not operational yet, but expected to be till the end of the year. Details of technical assistance to be provided by UNDP agreed with Croatian Bank for Development and Construction. Signed Cost sharing agreement for reviewing and updating of the Energy Strategy with the Ministry of Economy. Tripartite agreement on financing the info campaign signed, accompanied by public promotion. Procurement and other preparations for the autumn campaign in progress. Free audits for selected cities and counties and other service sector are being prepared. Preparation of the Energy Efficiency Advisor Course in progress, to be carried out before the end of the year. Development of Energy Efficiency Master Plan for Croatia is underway, finalization planned for November 2007. Mid-term evaluation conducted, Final Mid-term Evaluation Report received. Will be presented to the Project Steering Committee together with the resulting project response and plan for subsequent activities.
