| Description | Through the IFC, direct subsidies have been competitively awarded to domestic manufacturers of qualified compact fluorescent lighting (CFLs). Manufacturers and wholesalers will be required to pass on full savings on to retailers, who will apply a standard percentage-based mark-up, passing savings on to consumers. This has sparked demand for CFLs in Poland, demonstrating the financial and commercial benefits of energy-efficient lighting and resulting in large power savings and reduced emissions from coal-fired generation plants. |
| Implementation Status | Original GEF project activities concluded. Final independent monitoring and evaluation report completed and final completion report drafted. Project completion date extended to allow FEWE, local EE NGO who participated extensively in project's implementation and a number of other local entities, to utilize residual project funds to demonstrate sustainable financing approaches for private sector market transformation in the Polish lighting market. Street lighting ESCO formed and still active in market. IFC review of the FEWE initiated street lighting ESCO is complete. IFC has asked for return of the remaining funds which we disbursed to FEWE; remaining funds to be returned to the Trust Fund. |
