Global treaty to halt invasive aquatic species to enter into force in 2017

Accession by Finland has triggered the entry into force of the Ballast Water Management (BWM) Convention on 8 September 2017. The BWM Convention is a key international measure for environmental protection that aims to stop the spread of potentially invasive aquatic species through ships’ ballast water.

Hawaii, 3 September 2016: Today, 11 of the world’s leading conservation organisations announced an ambitious new partnership to identify, map, monitor and conserve Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA)places that include vital habitats for threatened species – with more than US$15 million committed over the next five years.

The announcement was made at the IUCN World Conservation Congress currently taking place in Hawaiʻi, USA.

The global renewable energy insurance facility, which will be operated via the new internet website “insurance4renewables”, will offer standard and customised insurance solutions for renewable energy projects in developing countries.
