The GEF contributed to the CFSG's work along with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), and the World Bank's Partnership for Market Readiness (PMR).
Building on the 2014 Report to the Finance Ministers, the G20 Climate Finance Study Group 2015 Report focused on discussing barriers and possible approaches in four key areas:
- Improving the collaboration, dialogue and cooperation between climate funds;
- Adaptation financing for developing countries;
- Sharing experiences on public finance mobilization for both mitigation and adaptation actions;
- Promoting effective financial instruments and approaches to enhance climate finance and stimulate climate-friendly private investment.
The GEF provided technical inputs to the G20 CFSG's discussions and to the Group's 2015 Report which summarizes the Group's discussions, conclusions and overall recommendations.
In support of the CFSG's work, the GEF also collaborated with the OECD to prepare the "Toolkit to Enhance Access to Adaptation Finance for Developing Countries that are Particularly Vulnerable to Climate Change" (August 2015).
This toolkit provides practical guidance for vulnerable developing countries, including LIDCs, SIDS and African States, on identifying and accessing international climate finance. It includes tools for capacity development, project preparation, fostering lesson-sharing and peer learning, and using the National Adaption Plan (NAP) process effectively.
Information related to GEF financing for adaptation can be found on the GEF website.
