Official launch of the GEF Small Grants Programme
in Zambia


GEF SGP Zambia is happy to report a very successful launch of the Small Grants Programme. The launch took place on the 24th April 2009 at one of the projects that benefited from the SGP funding. This project aims at enhancing adaptation to climate change by families considered vulnerable through the promotion of agriculture to improve household food security, increase income which will result in the reduction in economic pressure on the environment.

The event was officiated by the director of environment on behalf of the Minister for Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources and the UNDP Deputy Representative Representative on behalf of the UNDP Country Director. The launch was followed by visits to identified household who benefitted from the SGP funding .

Also present were members and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps, NGOs, government Officials, Members of the NSC and local media houses. The event was featured on television and in local news papers.
