The Land Degradation Neutrality Technical Assistance Facility (LDN TAF), has supported 29 project developers seeking investment from the LDN Fund and other blended finance investors. The LDN Fund was promoted by the Global Mechanism of the UNCCD and is led by Mirova. With WWF as the GEF implementing agency and managed by IDH, the LDN TAF has provided essential technical assistance to improve the technical, operational, and financial capacities and processes of partners, enhancing their sustainable land management and land restoration impact potential. The LDN TAF was financed by the French Development Agency AFD (€3 million), Global Environment Facility ($2 million), and additional $1.7 million co-financing.
The project, in partnership with Conservation International and OpenGeoHub, enabled the operationalization of a methodology to monitor and track progress on LDN at investment project level tied to Sustainable Development Goal 15.3. The TAF has supported LDN Fund investees in setting their LDN baselines using this methodology and built their capacity to integrate continuous monitoring of the LDN indicator into their operations.
During this session, the TAF presented its learnings from six years of experience in technical assistance delivery for sustainable land management and restoration projects, including its partnerships with project developers across the globe. The discussion also highlighted the evolving landscape of blended finance investors and technical assistance facilities, and insights from the LDN Fund and AFD – investor to both the LDN Fund and the LDN TAF.
