Hosted by the government of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the GEF Secretariat held this workshop with participants from five Asian Least Developed Countries (LDCs). In addition to the Kingdom of Cambodia, they included Bangladesh, Bhutan, Lao PDR, and Nepal. Invited participants from each country included GEF operational focal points, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) national focal points, climate adaptation experts from various government ministries and national institutions, in addition to civil society organization representatives.

The focus of this workshop series is on bringing together experts who are directly involved in adaptation project planning, decision making, and implementing adaptation action. Others invited include the GEF’s Council members and alternate Council members from the region, as well as representatives from GEF agencies, the GEF’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel, the Green Climate Fund, and the LDC Group within the UNFCCC.

The objective of this regional workshop was to create awareness and develop enhanced skills and knowledge to prepare and supervise the implementation of priority adaptation needs. In particular, it aimed to strengthen the capacity and skills of workshop participants by providing them with the information and tools to assist them in translating their priority adaptation needs to seek funding through the GEF’s two specialist adaptation funds, the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) and Special Climate Change Fund (SCCF).

The workshop is based on the GEF’s ongoing implementation of its programming strategy on adaptation for the LDCF and SCCF for the 2022-2026 period. As part of this strategy, the GEF is organizing a series of sub-regional workshops.
