- Managing Protected Areas and Mainstreaming Biodiversity in the 21st Century: Case Studies from the GEF Portfolio (Sept. 2, 2016)
The objective of the workshop is to generate technical and policy discussions on the challenges and potential solutions to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity within protected areas and in the productive landscapes and seascapes that surround them amidst ever growing pressures on biodiversity globally. Presentations will be focused and short to allow greater time for discussion and interaction with the audience.
- Financing Indigenous Peoples Conservation Projects (Sept. 2, 2016)
This workshop will:share opportunities for indigenous peoples to partner in GEF projects and showcase best practices in implementation of GEF projects by Indigenous Peoples and partners. The event will also work to identify ways and opportunities to expand project collaborations among Indigenous Peoples and other partners. The event is targeted to indigenous peoples interested in designing and implementing medium to large-scale environmental projects.
- Ridge to Reef to Sea to Ocean: Coastal and Marine Conservation in Small Islands States (Sept. 3, 2016)
This workshop will provide an opportunity to share and learn from the GEF and partners’ investments in coastal and marine planning and conservation. The event will focus on the GEF’s Ridge 2 Reef Program in the Pacific Islands, which has a goal to maintain and enhance Island countries’ ecosystem goods and services through integrated approaches to natural resources management that contribute to poverty reduction, sustainable livelihoods and climate resilience. - Global Commons - Solutions for a Crowded Planet (Sept. 3, 2016)
This side event organized by the GEF with IUCN and other partners, will serve as a forum to discuss on the upcoming International Conference called "Safeguarding the Global Commons on a Crowded Planet" which will be organized by the GEF in 2016. The side event will serve as an opportunity to socialize, refine, and discuss some key inputs to the conference.
- Gender-Responsive Financing for the Global Environment (Sept. 4, 2016)
This workshop will explore new and existing commitments on gender equality among financing mechanisms and Multilateral Environmental Agreements, including the GEF. It will share progress, challenges and lessons learned with regards to efforts to mainstream gender and provide space to explore issues around access to financing and other mechanisms to catalyze greater results on gender equality and women’s’ empowerment across projects and programs.
- Business engagement within the GEF (Sept. 4, 2016)
In this session, participants will hear from the Director of Programs at the GEF, Gustavo Fonseca, who along with GEF partners, will provide an overview to GEF’s engagement with the private sector.
- Integrated Solutions for a Sustainable and Resilient Planet (Sept.5, 2016)
The GEF has launched a series of programs to promote a new and innovative way of tackling major drivers of global environmental degradation. The programs address drivers related to food security, commodity supply chains, sustainable cities, illegal wildlife trade, coastal fisheries and the Amazon. This workshop will discuss how these programs can be harnessed to generate multiple environmental benefits at national, regional, and global levels.
