From November 11-14, the Global Environment Facility, in partnership with the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the UN Development Programme, AGRA, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN, The Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF), Conservation International, Bioversity International, and the UN Environment Programme, organized a Resilient Food Systems (RFS) program expert workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. This event brought together experts to review the RFS program’s achievements in promoting sustainability and resilience for smallholder farmers across Sub-Saharan Africa.
With the program wrapping up, the workshop:
- Shared insights on climate, environment, and food security in Sub-Saharan Africa from scientists
- Evaluated lessons from RFS’s integrated approach from RFS partners
- Identified future pathways for resilient food systems
The RFS program (formerly the Food Security Integrated Approach Pilot) supports smallholder farmers in 12 countries by focusing on integrated, sustainable management of key resources: land, water, soil, and biodiversity. By addressing these critical areas, RFS works to enhance food security, combat environmental degradation, and foster resilient agro-ecosystems across Sub-Saharan Africa's drylands.
