DescriptionThis project aims at developing and implementing a bioenergy technology package to reduce GHG emissions by up to 177 tons of C over the next 25 years, and to promote a sustainable and participatory approach to meeting rural energy needs. The project will be implemented mainly in two panchayats (a cluster of about 24 villages), of Tumkur district in Karnataka. The project goals will be achieved through (i). Demonstrating the technical feasibility and financial viability of bioenergy technologies on a significant scale, (ii). Building capacity and developing appropriate mechanisms for implementation, management and monitoring of the project; (iii). Developing financial, institutional and market strategies to overcome the identified barriers for large-scale replication of the bioenergy package for decentralized applications; and (iv). Disseminating the bioenergy technology and information package on a large scale.
Implementation StatusAs per the approved plan of action by the steering committee of the project , the following works were carried out. 1. The operation and maintenance of the gasifiers in cluster-1 for 200 KWE and 100 Kwe units were done. The power evacuation to the grid was continued and around 12,000 units of power was evacuated. The biomass harvesting and feedstock preparation continued through community participation. 2. The capacity building activity of the community in various activities including efficient water and power use, gasifier operation and maintenance, tree planting etc were undertaken as per the plan. 3. In cluster-2 as envisaged in the project the civil works, fabrication of the gasifiers and assembly wok has progressed well. The erection of the gasifier may be completed by the end of October 2007 for Boregunte cluster and by November 2007 for Seebinayakana palya by the end of November 2007. 4. The electrical works are being carried out as per the plan . 5. As part of the dissemination the project profile was telecasted on the National TV (Dooradarsan).
