DescriptionGoal: To catalyse self-financing uses of the 10,000 hectare Inka Terra Ecological Reserve (IER) that achieve biodiversity conservation and sustainable development for local communities. This is expected to provide a replicable model for engaging the private sector in achieving financial sustainability for protected areas. This proposal will eliminate deforestation and poaching within the IER; reduce hunting to sustainable levels; provide conservation-compatible livelihoods for a significant portion of the four local communities; and increase awareness of and support for conservation among local and regional stakeholders. It will also generate long-term revenues to help ensure sustainability of the conservation and community development measures.
Implementation StatusCEO approval was received on Dec. 19, 2003. Management Approval was received in April 2004. The first disbursement for project implementation was made in June 2004. At this point the canopy walk is being constructed.
