DescriptionThis project will enhance decentralized and participatory conservation management in Guatemala by expanding and consolidating a network of municipal regional parks (MRPs) in the Western Plateau region.
Implementation StatusJan- March 2007: The operational planning and budgeting for each of the five municipalities were finished. Each municipality signed the annual agreement. 91 ha of forested and incentivated areas are coached and supervised by INAB. The implementation of the basic infrastructure in San Juan Ostuncalco, San Marcos and San Pedro Sacacatepequez have been achieved by 80\%. A public sensitization on the main and transversal topic: water, was carried out. The project is in the final preparation for the edition of the booklet regarding environmental education for teachers. Monitoring activities on biodiversity and water resources were carried out. Different meetings with local and municipal groups were held in order to coordinate activities.
