DescriptionThe two co-ordinated projects will address the removal of barriers to enhance energy efficiency in the regional context of Egypt and Palestinian Authority. By creating an appropriate institutional setting and adequate capacity in the region to engage in energy conservation activities, alternatives to the existing tendency to meeting the ever increasing demand for power by expansion of generating facilities, will emerge. As such, the project will address both supply and demand side energy efficiency from an economy-wide perspective.
Implementation StatusTransmission losses have dropped from 7\% in 1998 to 3.8\% in 2004 which is significantly lower than the targeted value of 5\% in the project document. -The project started implementation of the activities related to the establishment of an Energy Efficient Equipment laboratory for testing home electric appliances with the funds made available from the UNDP Energy Trust Fund. An international consultant was hired to assist in preparing the tender documents and the international bidding shall be announced in September,2004. -The first draft for the energy efficiency code for commercial buildings has been completed. -The project continued its regular activities on energy audits, measurement of dynamic response for the generating units, upgrading the energy efficiency center, training of engineers and technicians, support to ESCOs, electricity companies and private sector etc
